Sailing in Sardinia

General Information

Northern Sardinia, but also Elba Island and the Strait of Bonifacio, offer excellent cruises. The northwest coast includes some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Mediterranean. Add hundreds of coves to white and shiny beaches, many islets, a little intrusive development, many anchorages, good marinas, pretty villages.

Westerly winds through the Strait of Bonifacio, channeled between Corsica and Sardinia, often reach F7. This area is a popular cruising ground, sharing the vast archipelagos of La Maddalena and Lavezzi, as well as a multitude of local anchors on the main coasts of the island.

Sardinia enjoys a warm and dry Mediterranean climate in summer, with air temperatures up to 36 ° C and water temperatures up to 25 ° C. In winter, the weather is mild and rainy. The spring and the beginning of the autumn season are ideal times for a cruise around northern Sardinia because the temperatures are pleasant, the scenery is beautiful and there are fewer people in ports and anchorages.

In the Strait of Bonifacio, conditions are specific with winds sometimes blowing in opposite directions and strongly, due to the bottleneck effect. In this area you will find many places to shelter.

If you decide to visit in July or August, it is better to focus on anchorages rather than ports because they can often be frightened and more expensive than in low or medium season.

Climate on Sardinia, various microclimates create a wide variety of temperatures and precipitations. Summers are long, extending from May to October.

In the western Mediterranean, the tidal range is very low, from 30 cm to 60 cm.
